The January 21st Family Winterfest saw a turnout of 160 people at Pioneer Flats. The children enjoyed a near perfect day for sled riding, tubing & snow boarding. Congratulations go out to the Venango Fatherhood Initiative for hosting the event and drawing their largest crowd ever. Thanks also to Mother Nature for the snow that made the event a huge success!

"Purple With A Purpose" for Domestic Violence Awareness 5K Freedom Walk was held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 AM. Although the turnout was smaller than expected due to the inclement weather conditions, the group was very enthusiastic. Joyce Moore lead the 5K walk through the Park followed by picnic at the Frey Family Patio. Giant Eagle provided the treats. Planning for next year's event is already underway.
Sponsors of the event were the Family Service & Children's Aid Society and UPMC Northwest. Thursday, August 25. 20112nd Annual Swim For The Cure Great Justus Lake Swimming Challenge a Huge Success
The 2nd Annual Swim For the Cure Great Justus Lake Swimming Challenge was held on Tuesday, August 16th. A total of 37 swimmers raised over $5,000 for cancer research.

Friday, September 3. 20102nd Annual Great Justus Lake Swimming Challenge Held August 18, 2010
The 2nd Annual Great Justus Lake Swimming Challenge was held on August 18, 2010. Twenty Five (25) swimmers ranging in age from 8 to 72 took part in the event. Thanks to Mike Hart, this year's event was part of the Swim Across America series to raise funds to fight cancer. Mike set-up and coordinated the event as his senior project at Franklin High School. Additional thanks goes to Eric Smith for his role in supporting this year's challenge swim.
Plans are all ready in the works for the 2011 Challenge Swim. Thursday, August 19. 2010Nancy Frey-Smith Memorial Weekend a BIG Success!
The Nancy Frey-Smith Memorial Weekend held on August 14-15, 2010 was a big success. On Saturday, August 14th, 93 mountain bikers took part in the 30K race. On Sunday, August 15th, 25 runners completed the 5K Woods Run and another 25 runners competed in the 30K Woods Run. A big thanks goes out to Dan Hovis and Dan Bowersox for all their hard work in preparing the trails and Kyla Mazurkewiz, Tony Sokoloski and all the members of the Park's Trail Committee for doing an excellent job in organizing and working at the events. Luke Kauffman, Park maintenance, also deserves a big thanks for all his hard work that made the events a success. Also on Sunday, August 15th, a large crowd turned out for the Memorial Service for Nancy Frey-Smith and the dedication of the Frey Family Patio Pavilion followed by a community picnic. Thanks to A.Criveilli for sponsoring the picnic and to Franklin Bronze Plaques and Bill Moon, Jr. for a great job in getting the plaques made and to us on time. Darryl Scott caught this "monster" bass in Justus Lake June 23, 2009. It weighed 8 lbs 2 oz, was 23 3/4" long and 17 1/2" in girth.
