In spite of an unpredicted snowstorm, Two Mile Run had a packed house for the May 16th Trail Stewardship Workshop. Bud & Gwen Wills did their usual excellent job of presenting the ways and means of creating and maintaining the trail system in a park. A special thanks goes out to Sandy Hovis for organizing and providing a great vegetable soup for lunch and for all her help during the workshop. A big thanks also goes out to those members of Park's Trail Committee that helped out. Thanks to Dan Hovis for helping to set-up Saturday morning and for loading and clean-up after the workshop and for his insight of the Park's trails during the workshop. Also, Park staff, Luke & Dave, get a big thanks for the set-up before the workshop and their clean-up efforts after the event.
To everyone involved, great job!

The 2013 Winterfest was held on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Thanks to the efforts of the Venango Fatherhood Initiative, Josh Botts and all the volunteers, the day was a big success. In spite of not having much snow, the children had a great time sledding & tubing at Pioneer Flats.
In addition, a "Learn-to-Ski Day" was held at the Nature Lodge. Thanks to our instructors: Mike Henderson, Tambra Sabatini, Dan Moore, Dan Bowersox & Mark Mazukewicz, the day was also a big success. Eighteen people received excellent instruction on how to cross country ski.
A second "Learn-To-Ski Day" is scheduled for Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 10 AM - 2 PM providing the weather conditions permit. The cost will be $2 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under. Lunch will be provided for a donation. Please call the Park office at:
814-676-6116 to register for a lesson time. The lessons begin at 10 AM and continue on the hour through 2 PM.
The Park appreciates your support!

The Two Mile Run Adopt-A-Pavilion Project for 2010 now has six (6) pavilions adopted: Sandy K. Hovis Insurance adopted the Justus & Daniel Boone Pavilions; Hepler Contracting adopted the Mackey Pavilion; the Oil City Rotary adopted the Lake Side Pavilion; Pin Oak Village adopted the Fishing Pier Pavilion and; the Jeffrey Family adopted the Lake's Edge PAvilion.
This project insures that the pavilions are maintained and repaired when necessary. Those businesses and other entities adopting pavilions have a sign prominently displayed on the pavilion(s), their name placed on future Park brochures and shown on the web site, their name placed on a plaque to be dispalyed in the Nature Lodge and they are entitled to an annual company picnic at their adopted pavilion.
The Park gives a BIG THANKS to these sponsors for their support!

This hearty "Band of Brothers" from the Pittsburgh area braved the near zero temperatures to try their hand at ice fishing on Justus Lake. Sleeping in tents and arctic sleeping bags for two nights, they did not catch a lot of fish, but had a great time!

There was an issue with the Comments feature blocking every single comment due to overly aggressive spam protection. It has since be slightly relaxed (but still quite powerful) & the commenting functionality should now be working.
